Pros

  • Several design options
  • Fun using the imagination
  • More job options

Cons

  • Sound quality
  • Long wait times

Create a family and a neighborhood of your own with the design tools available.

This is a game where you can get lost in your imagination. Start by creating your character. Give your character a name, and choose the clothing that he or she wears. After you've designed your person, you can find a home or build one from the ground up, which is easy with the tools that are available. Some of the homes that are already built have furniture in them, making it easy to add a few more pieces to your home to make it your own. When you're settled in your home either alone, with a spouse or roommate or with a family, you can begin searching for jobs and reading to gain skill points. The skill points that you earn will help in every aspect of life, such as cooking and cleaning.

The decorations and furniture that are available in this installment are much more detailed than in the first game. There are more jobs to choose from and more design options with the flooring, lights, and wallpaper. You can choose to use the hints and tips that are provided in the game or turn them off. The game itself is easy to play. You can choose a story mode where you have to reach certain milestones or play freely where there aren't as many challenges. You can get promotions at work and have children with your spouse after you get married. Invite your neighbors over to chat or for a party. You can't understand what your characters are saying, but the details of the game have greatly improved. The colors are brighter, and it's easier to position items in your home and move your characters. The sound effects could use some improvement as the game still sounds robotic in this area.

Pros

  • Several design options

The Sims 2 is a popular role-playing game that has attracted millions of fans over the years.

The first Sims video game was a runaway hit upon its initial release and the same can be said for The Sims 2. Originally made public in 2004, this platform has enjoyed millions of downloads over the years. Much like the original version, the main premise of the game is to create characters, give them unique personalities and then control how they live their lives. As this version was released so many years ago, players should not expect the quality graphics that are now considered to be commonplace. Still, The Sims 2 offers a truly classic feel while the ability to customise this world will appeal to fans of all ages.

The Plot

The premise behind The Sims 2 is to create characters "from scratch" (literally from infancy) and watch them grow into adults. One interesting feature is that personalities can also be inherited from parents as well as provided by the player. So, there can be slight mysteries in terms of the direction that the game will take.

Perhaps the most interesting fact is that Electronic Arts intended The Sims 2 to be as much of a sociological experiment as an entertaining video game. In other words, the outcome of the lives in The Sims 2 will be based upon the actions of the characters, their personalities and the choices that are made. Memories can have either short- or long-term effects as well; moulding relationships between friends and family members. Strong bonds as well as lifelong enemies are equal possibilities. Perhaps this is the reason that The Sims 2 has been so successful. There are literally no two scenarios which are ever alike.

Graphics

As mentioned earlier, the 2004 graphics are likely to appear a bit dated. This is only to be expected although it should still be noted that they are improved in relation to the first release. Characters will still appear to be slightly angular and the faces do not have nearly as much detail as more modern systems offer. In many ways, this was never the point. The Sims 2 is more focused upon the relationships of the characters with one another and the world around them. Most fans consider the graphics to be secondary. However, please note that the trailer does not do justice to the sheer amount of possibilities that this game offers.

Details and Specifications

The Sims 2 is designed to be used in Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows 7 and Windows 8. It is also available for Mac OSX systems. As opposed to some other games, the file size is quite large. Consequently (and without expansion packs such as Sims Nightlife), the total size is 2.5 gigabytes. All of the available expansion packs take up an additional 1.5 gigabytes of space. Thus, the game is played via CD and DVD as opposed (normally) to a direct download.

Trailer Summary

It is unfortunate that the official trailer is somewhat limited in terms of what can be viewed. This can detract slightly from the intricacies of the game and the nearly innumerable choices that the player can make. Ultimately, there are few positives and negatives associated with The Sims 2. Let us list the most prominent.

Pros

  • Vastly improved graphics in relation to the original version
  • Countless different customisation options
  • The ability to play from a CD as opposed to a download

Cons

  • The trailer is less impressive than the game
  • Graphics may not be as impressive as some would like

Pros

  • Fun overview of The Sims 2
  • Graphics have improved

Get a glimpse of what playing The Sims 2 will be like by watching the exciting trailer.

From creating the person you want to play with in the game to designing your own house, this is a fun simulation game. Begin by making a person based on what you want him or her to look like, such as the face, hair, and clothing. You can choose the personality as well as the goals that the person has in life. When your person or family is created, you can buy a house in one of the available neighborhoods.

The trailer shows some of the various options that you have when it comes to the homes and the decorations and accessories that you can buy. There is also an indication as to the jobs that are available and the things that you can do with your housemates, family, and friends while at home. You can build extra rooms on to the house that you buy, and you can change the look of the floor, walls, windows, and just about everything else that you can think of so that you have the home of your dreams.

Your person can go to work to make money to get more upgrades in the home. There is a possibility of getting married and having children in the game. When you view the trailer, you see some of the things that children can do, such as play outside on a swingset or even swim in a pool. You will also see some of the things that your person can do that will cause a bad day, such as burning a meal on the stove, which often leads to a fire in the kitchen.
